Highlights of WEF Global Risks Report 2021 – Saadia Zahidi Managing Director World Economic Forum
This year, the World Economic Forum Global Risks report calls for the world to wake up to long term risks and warns about environmental concerns, which top the list of biggest concerns by impact and likelihood.
According to the forum’s newest data, the COVID-19 pandemic’s immediate impact is on disparities and social fragmentation, in the next 3-5 years it will threaten the economy, and in the next 5-10 years it will weaken geopolitical stability.
For the younger generation who will be the most affected by these developments, medium and long-term risks are environmental while immediate concerns are mental health deterioration and livelihood crises. This is pretty aligned with most concerning risk blind spots: climate and society.
Last but not least the report highlights the digital gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” risks widening and challenging social cohesion.
